All about the Astrocartography (ACG) Lines

What are ACG lines?

Some of my Astrocartography lines running through Brazil.

To understand what planetary lines are, you first need to have a grasp of what Astrocartography is.

Astrocartography is a sub-discipline of Astrology that merges Astrology (the study of the influence/relationship between the celestial bodies and our earthly experiences) with Cartography (the study of maps, mapmaking, and other representations of geographical information.)

Astrocartography maps your birth chart against a map of the world to gauge the types of energies you would be most inclined to experience in different locations. The specific planetary lines found overlaying different places can give us an idea of what living or traveling there could entail for us.

Astrocartography maps show where planets were on the angles (Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, IC) at the moment of your birth.

To understand how the lines work, you need to know what the birth chart angles are and what they represent.

What are birth chart angles?

These angles are found in our birth chart and they represent major areas of your life:

Midheaven (MC): Career, reputation, legacy, public image

Imum Coeli (IC): Home life, family, private life

Descendant (DC): All types of relationships

Ascendant (AC): Relationship with yourself/the development of your identity

So, back to the original question: What are planetary lines? Planetary lines, also referred to as Astrocartography Lines (ACG Lines) appear on an Astrocartography Map when a specific planet, luminary, or celestial body falls within three degrees of a specific birth chart angle, meaning that it is conjunct that angle.

Why are ACG lines significant?

Whenever a planet, luminary, or celestial body is close to a specific birth chart angle, it brings its specific energetic themes to the area of life associated with the birth chart angle.

Here are some of the common themes associated with different planets, luminaries, and celestial bodies:

☉Sun Lines: Self-actualization, recognition, fame, motivation, confidence. Moving to these lines can cause us to embody our sun sign traits even more than we already do.

☽Moon Lines: Emotional support, tenderness, nurturance, intuition, feminine energy, fertility, settling down.

☿Mercury Lines: Activates the mind, learning, studying, conducting research, to some extent socializing and meeting like-minded individuals. Can sometimes result in overthinking, depending on your Mercury sign/aspects.

♀Venus Lines: Love, beauty, partnerships, socializing, self-confidence, pleasure, greater ease in life.

♂Mars Lines: Action, increased energy, more assertiveness, more confrontations, can attract accidents, competitiveness. Can also indicate overworking.

♃Jupiter Lines: Success, expansion, abundance, rewards, good fortune, spiritual, wisdom, confidence. Also can indicate overdoing things, arrogance and gluttony.

♄Saturn Lines: Limits, karma, things seem to take time, require a lot of patience and waiting, isolation, feeling stuck or restricted, having too many responsibilities.

♅Uranus Lines: New beginnings, getting out of a rut, leaving the mundane, unexpected events, embracing uniqueness and standing out, but also feeling super different from everyone around you.

♆Neptune Lines: Spiritual, romantic, creative, confusing, escapism, could be good for vacations and retreats, creativity.

♇Pluto Lines: Transformation, intensity, shows us what is hidden, secrets, manipulation, power/control dynamics.

🏹Chiron Lines: Triggering, feeling rejected or misunderstood, being pushed to heal our emotional wounds/trauma.

☋South Node Lines: Letting go, no attachment to this place, feeling “over it”, criticism & rejection.

☊North Node Lines: Ambitious and focused, opportunities, never satisfied/always wanting more out of life.

Now you may be thinking, “wow, I need to move to a Venus or Jupiter line!” But that’s where a lot of people are mistaken. Whether a specific line is supportive or not largely depends on the condition of that planet, luminary, or celestial body in your birth chart. It’s important to look at the essential dignities, aspects being made, as well as the house it falls in your birth chart. This is why it’s worth booking a session with an Astrocartographer or taking the time to study Astrocartography in-depth before making major relocation decisions.

When we combine your angles and planets plotted on an astrocartography map, we can discover how your astrological signature uniquely interacts with certain geographical locations.

For example:

Your Venus IC line could be a place to find love and harmony in the home, a potential place to settle down long-term.

Your Mars MC line could be place where we feel very driven and focused on our careers, even to the point of being competitive

Your Moon DC line could be place to find caring and nurturing relationships

But again, experiences on these lines can vary from person to person depending on how these planets are in their birth charts.

Lisbon, Portugal, which is suuuper close to my Moon DC line! 🌕
